Skills Description
Core Competencies
- Be a fully independent and competent horizontal caver (Horizontal Intermediate Level)
- Manage emergencies where the leader becomes incapacitated – including ability to:
- Return to surface independently to summon help if needed
- Establish emergency shelter and manage hypothermia risks
- Make critical decisions about party members to evacuate or leave in place
- Escort struggling participants safely out of the cave system
- Provide basic coaching and guidance through technical sections
- Maintain clear communication with the leader to maximize team effectiveness
