Braking Carabiner
An extra snap gate carabiner used on your Petzl Stop descender to add friction and control during descent.
What to look for
You need one extra snap gate carabiner. It clips onto the side of your Petzl Stop and the rope passes through it, adding friction that helps the descender work properly. A Petzl Djinn is a good choice. Any UIAA approved snap gate with a smooth gate action will do.
The braking carabiner is not complicated. It does not need to be expensive. The main thing is the gate opens and closes cleanly.

Buying Second Hand
You could buy a snap gate secondhand if you know what to check for. But a new Petzl Djinn costs about 10 pounds. That is cheap enough to buy new and not worry about the history.
