D-Ring

The big circular connector on your harness that your descender, cowstails, and other SRT kit clip onto. Get a Petzl Omni screw.

What to look for

Get a Petzl Omni screw gate. It's very strong. It lets you take your SRT kit on and off quickly without much fuss. The screw gate is easy to check: you can see and feel when it is fully done up.

Old style D-rings were Maillon Rapides. These are very cheap but hard to undo and do up, especially with cold or wet hands. The Petzl Omni is more expensive but much more convenient.

There is also a Petzl Omni tri-act version. We don't recommend it as a first choice because it is harder to check it is correctly closed. The screw gate is simpler and more reliable.

What to get first

You need an SRT harness. The D-ring attaches to the front of the harness.
