SRT Chest Harness
A chest harness holds your chest jammer in the right position on your chest so you can ascend the rope efficiently. It keeps the ascender at the right height and angle for each step up.
What to look for
There are two main styles of chest harness. Our recommendation is the AV Speleoshoulder harness (Basic or Pro).
It gives you nice places to clip carabiners for rigging, it adjusts to fit your body well, and it is what the Caving Crew club harnesses use.
Some people prefer the Petzl Torse style, which is a simpler strap setup.
Both are fine. If you are not sure, go with the AV Speleo shoulder.
What to get first
You need a sit harness first. The chest harness works as part of a system with your sit harness and chest jammer.

- Buy online? Yes, chest harnesses are simple enough that fit is less critical than with a sit harness. You can buy online without much risk.
Buying Second Hand
Chest harnesses are not PPE, so the safety risk is lower than with other kit. But you still need to check for worn stitching, damaged webbing, and broken buckles. If you do not know what to look for, buy new.
