1. Callout & Logistics:
– Using details from the trip sign-up page (Neocrew), prepare and post the CASSETTE callout to the callouts Messenger group.
– Help coordinate lift shares and check if any participants have specific gear or medical needs mentioned in Neocrew.

2. Route & Emergency Prep:
– Thoroughly review the survey and route description. Work out how to navigate the group to safety if the leader were incapacitated.
– Save offline copies of the survey/description on your phone as a backup.
– Check the group has the parking location

– Assist with gear distribution from Leader Bag
– Check everyone has helmets/lights that work and other key kit
– Brief participants on conservation principles when appropriate (no touching formations, don’t nick mining artifacts)

– Be as useful as possible. Position yourself where you can best support the group—often at the rear, but sometimes at the front to assist at obstacles.
– Monitor group members for signs of cold, fatigue, or anxiety, and communicate your observations to the Leader.
– Keep an eye on the time and group progress against the plan.
– Help manage group equipment (like the Leader Bag) as needed.
– Provide physical assistance and moral support at tricky sections (e.g., climbs, squeezes).
– Remember you’re a team member too; it’s okay to receive help from others.

– In a typical emergency, your role is to support the Leader. Follow their instructions, which might involve escorting a participant out or staying with a casualty while the Leader manages the situation.

– If the Leader is incapacitated, you will take charge. Your priorities are to:
1. Secure the scene and assess the situation.
2. Keep the casualty warm and provide first aid from the Leader Bag.
3. Reassure and manage the rest of the group.
4. Decide on the best evacuation plan—whether to lead the group out or send for help.

– Check with the Leader that the callout is cancelled, or cancel it yourself if you set it.
– Check all participants have a way to get home.
– Assist with checking and returning group tackle.
– If there was an incident, be prepared to answer questions about what happened.
